Sadly, Psoriasis is a condition that it is unlikely you will ever be able to rid yourself of. Luckily though, a number of treatments have been established which can help ease the symptoms somewhat. In fact, some treatments have the potential to keep your psoriasis of the scalp at bay for a fair amount of time. On this page I want to take a look at a few of these treatments. It is worth noting that this is not a complete list. However, I am sure that you will find a method here that works for you quite well. It is also worth knowing that there is no ‘best’ treatment when it comes to Psoriasis of the scalp. What works for one person may not necessarily work for another. Anyway, without further ado, let’s take a little look at some of the more popular and effective scalp psoriasis home remedies available for you to try out.
All Natural Scalp Psoriasis Home Remedies That Work!
I am going to kick-off proceedings with one of my favorite scalp psoriasis home remedies. Now, this is not something which is going to work long-term sadly. However, it is one of those treatments which will be able to eradicate those awful scales seemingly overnight. It is also a very simple treatment. To do this, heat up a couple of tablespoons of olive oil at night and massage it into your head before you fall asleep. When you wake up you will be able to wash it out with your normal shampoo. If you wish to increase the potency then you may wish to add a smidgen of the next ingredient. Many people have find that it makes the olive oil method that much more effective.
You may have been told that Aloe Vera cream is good for psoriasis of the scalp and to an extent it is. However, you need to be aware that Aloe Vera cream is a bit processed. This means that there may be ingredients which may not agree with you and there is a good chance that they may actually make the problem a lot worse. That is why I suggest that you pick up some raw Aloe Vera juice. You should be able to find it at most natural health stores.
Now, with this method you are going to be mixing one part fresh water to one part Aloe Vera juice. You will then massage it into your scalp in circular motion. Almost instantly you will notice that the itching has eased itself somewhat. In addition to this, you will find that the inflammation, or at least a part of it, will disappear a short while after.
If you have ever suffered from acne then you will know that vinegar is one of the most recommended treatments. Why? Well, because it has almost godly powers when it comes to the reduction of inflammation. This is why it should be one of the first treatments that you try.
You will want to use only pure Apple Cider Vinegar for this. If you are near a fairly large store then you should be able to pick it up there. If you are not then any health food store worth its salt should keep it. You will want to mix the Apple Cider Vinegar up with some water to dilute it. You will then rub it onto the affected area. This will help kill the infection a little bit. It will also soothe the area and reduce the inflammation quite quickly.
Tea Rinse with Added Turmeric
Firstly, I want to mention here that you do not want to use coffee. I have seen so many guides out there about psoriasis of the scalp treatment mention the usage of coffee on the skin it is unreal. Let me clear something up for you now. This does not work. In fact, it could actually make the problem a whole lot worse. If you want something that is effective then you will want to use tea. You can either use Camomile or Green Tea for this.
My favorite is making a Camomile tea. This is because it is known to actually decrease the chance of an outbreak. If you use this regularly on your scalp then you may find that you will keep any psoriasis of the scalp outbreaks at bay for a good while. Many people also like to add a bit of turmeric to the solution as it makes everything a bit more potent.
If the psoriasis of the scalp is quite thick and ‘lumpy’ then you may benefit from some castor oil. This is another of the ingredients which can be purchased from almost anywhere. To use it you will want to put a good amount directly onto the affected area. You can then fall asleep overnight with it on. When you wake up it is highly likely that a good amount of the inflammation would have disappeared. Some people like to combine it with baking soda. I have not seen much change to this, however, those that have it with thicker affected areas find that it is a lot more potent and clears it up quite well overnight. You should try it. You have absolutely nothing to lose by adding a bit of baking soda.
Dead Sea Salt
Dead Sea Salt is absolutely amazing. You will be surprised at just how much it can actually be used for away from the world of psoriasis treatments. We are of course concerned with getting your scalp in gear here, and thus that is what we shall focus on.
You should be able to get Dead Sea salt from your local health store. However, I have noticed that in some locations it is bit more difficult to get hold of. Have no fear though, there are plenty of places online where you can get hold of it. If you are feeling particularly flush with the cash then you may even want to head to the Dead Sea and dip your head under the water. It actually helps. I doubt many people can afford to do that though.
Dead Sea Salt comes in a variety of different forms. Most people use shampoo with Dead Sea Salt infused. However, I suggest getting hold of the pure crystals and mixing it up with water. You can then bathe your hair in it.
Tea Tree Oil & Vitamin E
One of the unique things about this combination is that it is the only natural treatment for psoriasis of the scalp that has been approved by the FDA. It really is that effective.
If you want to make it slightly more effective then you may wish to add a bit of palm oil on top of this. However, I have heard that some people have had a bit of trouble sourcing this. It is also not that important when it comes to treating the scalp. The tea tree is the most important ingredient here. It helps to reduce inflammation of the skin and create a protective layer over the top of it. You will want to use Vitamin E acetate (easily sourced from a health food store or some pharmacies) and mix it up with the tea tree oil. You just need to rub it into your skin. It is very good!
Many people are actually surprised that this is a real psoriasis of the scalp treatment. I am going to be honest with you here though. This is without a doubt one of the most effective scalp psoriasis home remedies, particularly when you are dealing with chronic itching.
You don’t even need to have too much to hand for this treatment. You just need to mix one cup of organic oatmeal up with water. You can then rub this into your scalp. Almost instantly you will find that the pain just disappears. The itching will stop too. You should always use this technique when you are suffering from a bit more of a severe flare-up. It really will help. You just need to remember to wash your hair before you head outside. After all, nobody wants to see somebody walking around with oatmeal in their hair, right?
Your Diet Plan
There are a number of diet plans out there for psoriasis of the scalp. It would be nigh on impossible for me to mention them all here. What I do want to talk about though is one which can help to reduce inflammation of the scalp.
There are a number of things that it is absolutely vital that you avoid if you are suffering from Psoriasis. This includes:
- Red Meats. This particularly includes ones which are high in fat.
- Dairy. You do not have to cut it out completely. However, you will want to cut way back on it, especially if you believe that you are consuming too much.
- Processed foods.
- Refined sugars (mostly occur in processed foods including soft drinks)
- Any vegetable or fruit from the nightshade family. These are known to increase inflammation in the body. Some of the worst offenders here include potatoes and tomatoes. You should carry out a bit more research on the nightshade family to find out what else you should be avoiding.
I think your main aim here is to get a diet that is as natural and healthy as possible. You will find that this helps to reduce inflammation quite a lot. One thing that I absolutely suggest you do is to get more Omega-3 into your diet. Most of the time this will come from oily fish such as mackerel or salmon. If you can’t quite stomach fish then you may want to purchase some Omega-3 supplements. If you are looking to reduce the inflammation from psoriasis of the scalp then you will also want to eat a lot of nuts, seeds and colourful vegetables and fruits. All of these are rich in antioxidants and can help you a lot.
Don’t forget to drink lots of water on top of this!
There is not much to say in this regard. Just to try to make sure that you keep up your exercise regime. You will also want to keep the areas that get affected quite easily clean. You should not have too many troubles here. Most of the lifestyle changes will be done in your diet which I mentioned previously.
The Medical Route of Psoriasis of the Scalp Treatment
Coal Tar Products
These products are some of the most effective ‘non-natural’ products when it comes to the psoriasis of the scalp treatment. The problem is, they do not work for everybody and they can actually be quite smelly. Coal Tar products are normally available over the counter. They are applied to the scalp by massaging it gently in. This can help to reduce inflammation. It will also slow down the speed in which the cells are growing. If you can use coal tar products then you should. They are very effective.
This is something that you are going to want to use with great caution as it can be quite powerful. This again is available over the counter at almost every good pharmacy. With this acid you will be using it to soften the scales. This makes them much easier to use. You do not want to use this on new scales. It will most likely not work.
There are plenty of medicated shampoos available on the market for dealing with scalp psoriasis. Most of them include coal tar, although you do not have to use these ones if you do not want to. These are used exactly like normal shampoo on a daily basis. You do not want to use them long-term as this can make the problem worse. You will only want to use them when you are suffering from a flare-up. You should be able to get this over the counter in most good pharmacies.
