Psoriasis Diet

What foods to eat and to avoid with the best psoriasis diet planEvery day we are exposed to information on why we should lead a healthy lifestyle and make sure we eat foods that are good for us. This information is aimed at everyone, no matter what their state of health. However, if you have psoriasis this is even more important. A psoriasis diet is something you should consider when you suffer from this condition.

People who have psoriasis are known to have a low level of antioxidants in their bodies, if this is the case, when your body starts to break-down the food you eat antioxidants will react with free radicals and if this is not done properly, it can cause all sorts of damage within the body as well as your skin. You should also make sure you get plenty of essential nutrients with a proper diet for psoriasis.

Essential nutrients are what help to maintain a healthy immune system, and if it’s weakened you won’t be able to fight off infection as efficiently as you should. In the following few words, you will learn which foods are good for a psoriasis diet and which foods are not.

A Psoriasis Diet Plan and Foods You Should Include

  • Lean Meats – Such things as chicken or beef can be part of your psoriasis diet plan but you need to make sure they’re not high in fat, ensure you check the label and NEVER eat chicken or turkey with the skin still on.
  • Coldwater Fish – This type of fish is chock full of omega-3 fatty acids and these help with reducing inflammation. Psoriasis is considered to be an inflammatory condition so make sure you eat plenty of mackerel, trout, salmon, herring, anchovies and albacore.
  • Leafy Green Vegetables and Flaxseed Oil – These also contain omega3 fatty acids and are a great alternative if you’re not a lover of fish.
  • Fruit and Vegetables that Are Colorful – We all know that fruit and vegetables are rich in vitamins A & C, and these help to keep your skin moist. Good foods of this sort you should include in your psoriasis home treatment are oranges, cantaloupes, carrots and blueberries.

The Best Diet for Psoriasis and Foods You Should Avoid

  • Alcohol and Caffeine – Both of these are very well known psoriasis triggers. They will not help to keep your skin moist and should not be part of your diet for psoriasis.
  • Cookies, Cakes and Potato Chips – These foods are high in omega-6 fatty acids which, unlike omega-3 fatty acids can cause inflammation. Make sure you check the labels of any processed food you buy as you don’t want this fatty acid in your psoriasis diet
  • High Cholesterol Foods – These are not good for anyone, let alone someone who suffers from Psoriasis. Of course, we all need some fat in our diet but keep it to a minimum.
  • Dairy that’s High in Fat – Again, this isn’t a good choice for anyone, and if you’re looking for a natural treatment choose dairy products that have a lower fat content. Even if this doesn’t help with your symptoms, it’s still good for you and your heart.
